Works for a one person business

Setup took an evening and I have never used accounting software before. Only real gripe is that importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly.

Pros

Setup took an evening and I have never used accounting software before.

Cons

Importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly.

Good starting point, you will move on

Categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well, and quarterly updates take about ten minutes once the bank feed is set up. No complaints so far.

Pros

Categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well.

Cons

There is no balance sheet, so my accountant still does a year end job.

Does the MTD job without the ceremony

The tax estimate updates as you go so January is not a shock, and it does not try to be a full ledger, which is exactly why I can use it. No complaints so far.

Pros

The tax estimate updates as you go so January is not a shock.

Cons

The mobile app occasionally logs me out mid entry.

Fine for a simple trade

Pros

Categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well.

Reporting is thin if you want anything beyond income and expenses.

Does the MTD job without the ceremony

HMRC submission went through first time with no error messages, and my accountant can see the figures without me emailing spreadsheets. No complaints so far.

Pros

HMRC submission went through first time with no error messages.

Cons

You outgrow it the moment you register for VAT.

The free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT. That said, no payroll at all, which caught me out when I took someone on and importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly.
