Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to subscribe, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never affects our ratings or what we recommend.

That sentence, or one very like it, appears above the first affiliate link on every page that carries one — not just here, and never below the fold. That is what the ASA and the CAP Code require, and it is also simply the honest way to run a review site.

When you click a commercial link on Assaylist, you pass through a redirect on our own domain before arriving at the vendor. That redirect lets us record that the click happened — but only if you have agreed to the affiliate cookie category. If you have not, the link still works exactly the same; we just do not write the record.

The vendor or their affiliate network then tracks whether you go on to subscribe. If you do, they pay us a referral fee, typically a fixed amount or a percentage of your first period. You pay exactly the same price either way. We never receive a discount to pass on, and we never receive your payment details.

Every outbound commercial link is marked rel="sponsored" and opens in a new tab, so both you and search engines can see the relationship for what it is.

These are the rules we hold ourselves to, and they are not negotiable:

• No vendor can buy a listing, a rating or a position. Ratings are calculated from verified user reviews and are never adjusted by hand.
• Products with no affiliate programme are treated identically. They are listed, reviewed, compared and recommended on the same terms — and they sometimes win the comparison.
• A commission has never bought a verdict. Where a product is weaker, we say so on its own page, including on pages that carry a commercial link to it.
• We do not accept paid reviews or sponsored rankings. If we ever publish anything commercially influenced, it will be labelled “Advertisement feature” at the top, in the same size as the body text.

Affiliate links can appear in these places, always with the disclosure above them:

• The “Visit” button in a product profile's sidebar
• The call to action on pricing cards
• The “Visit website” button on directory and search result rows
• The two vendor buttons at the end of a head-to-head comparison
• Occasionally, a product link inside an article

Where we have no affiliate relationship with a vendor, the button simply goes to their website directly. We never fabricate a tracking link, and we never imply a partnership that does not exist.

You are never obliged to use our links. You can go to any vendor's site directly and buy on identical terms. If you would rather we did not record your click-throughs at all, decline the affiliate cookie category — the site works exactly the same.
