About us
Why Assaylist exists
Buying business software in the UK is unusually hard to get right. Vendor pages quote headline prices that exclude VAT and exclude the tier most companies end up needing. Review aggregators fill with incentivised entries. A good deal of the comparison content that ranks well was written by people who have never filed a VAT return or run a payroll.
Assaylist is the resource we wanted and could not find. One place where the price is the real price, the rating comes from people who use the product at work, and the compliance detail has been checked against HMRC rather than copied out of a brochure.
How we are funded
This is the first thing most readers want to know, so it sits near the top of the page rather than in the footer.
Assaylist earns affiliate commission. When you follow a link to a vendor and go on to subscribe, we may receive a referral fee. It costs you nothing extra, and no vendor can pay to change what we publish. Every page carrying such a link discloses it above the link.
What commission does not buy is a verdict. Ratings are calculated from verified reviews and are never adjusted by hand. Products with no affiliate programme are listed, rated and recommended on identical terms, and they regularly finish above products that pay.
What we stand for
- 01
Independent by design
No vendor buys a listing, a rating, or a position in a comparison. Where we earn commission we say so on the page itself, above the link rather than beneath it. A commission has never changed a verdict on this site.
- 02
Built on evidence
Ratings come from verified reviews written by people who use the product at work. We do not buy reviews, we do not scrape them from other platforms, and we never publish a vendor's own marketing copy as though a customer had written it.
- 03
Checked, and dated
Software pricing moves constantly. Every product carries the date a person last checked the vendor's published UK list price, and we revisit the HMRC recognised software lists each quarter, because a stale compliance claim costs readers money.
- 04
Written for the UK
Making Tax Digital, RTI submissions, pension auto enrolment, CIS, VAT schemes, and pricing quoted in pounds. This is not an American review site with the spellings changed.
Who runs it
Assaylist is run by Zaid Umar, who started it after watching too many small UK businesses buy software on the strength of a landing page and spend the following year regretting it. It began as a spreadsheet shared with a handful of clients and grew into a public catalogue.
Every product listed here has been set up, used, and priced against the vendor’s own published UK terms before it appears. Where something has not been verified, the page says so rather than guessing.
Spotted something wrong? Corrections go straight to the editorial desk at editorial@assaylist.uk. We publish a note on the page whenever a correction changes a rating or a price.
