The enterprise CRM standard, endlessly configurable and priced to match

What is Salesforce Sales Cloud?

Salesforce is the CRM that defined the category and still leads the enterprise end of it. Sales Cloud is the sales specific product within a vast platform, and the pitch is that there is almost nothing you cannot configure it to do. That power is the reason large organisations standardise on it, and the reason smaller ones sometimes regret choosing it.

What it does well

Configurability is genuinely unmatched. Objects, fields, workflows, automation and entire custom applications can be built on the platform, so Salesforce bends to almost any sales process however unusual. For a large or complex organisation that flexibility is the whole point.

The ecosystem is enormous. The AppExchange, the partner and consultant community and the depth of integrations mean whatever you need to connect, someone has built it, and whatever you need to configure, someone knows how. That ecosystem is a real asset once you are committed.

Reporting, forecasting and the higher tier AI features are powerful, and for a business that lives on pipeline data the analytics justify a lot.

Where it falls short

Cost and complexity are the twin problems. Per user pricing runs from around twenty pounds on the entry Starter Suite to well over a hundred and thirty on Enterprise and far higher on Unlimited, and the real cost includes configuration, administration and often a consultant. It is rarely cheap by the time it is useful.

It needs ongoing administration. A well run Salesforce has someone who owns it, and a poorly run one becomes an expensive, half configured mess that nobody trusts.

For a small team with a simple sales process it is comprehensively more than the job requires, and a focused tool will be cheaper, faster and better adopted.

The UK detail that matters

Salesforce offers UK and EU data residency and GDPR aligned handling, with a large UK partner and consultant base. As a CRM it carries no HMRC obligations, and it integrates with UK finance systems through the ecosystem. Prices exclude VAT and there is a free trial, though a real evaluation means a scoped project.

Who should buy it

Larger and complex UK organisations that will invest in configuring and administering a CRM to fit an involved sales process, and businesses that value the unmatched ecosystem. Small teams with straightforward needs should choose Pipedrive, Capsule or HubSpot and spend the difference elsewhere.

The ecosystem is unmatched

Having a dedicated admin, it fits our process exactly, and it scaled with us as our sales operation grew complex. The cost climbs steeply once you are past the entry tier, but we live with it.
