Does the MTD job without the ceremony

The tax estimate updates as you go so January is not a shock, and HMRC submission went through first time with no error messages. No complaints so far.

Pros

The tax estimate updates as you go so January is not a shock.

Cons

The mobile app occasionally logs me out mid entry.

Cheap and it files

The free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT. It does not try to be a full ledger, which is exactly why I can use it.

Pros

The free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT.

Cons

Importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly.

Cheap and it files

Categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well. That said, no payroll at all, which caught me out when I took someone on and reporting is thin if you want anything beyond income and expenses.

Pros

Categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well.

Cons

No payroll at all, which caught me out when I took someone on.

Works for a one person business

My accountant can see the figures without me emailing spreadsheets, and setup took an evening and I have never used accounting software before. No payroll at all, which caught me out when I took someone on, but we live with it.

Pros

My accountant can see the figures without me emailing spreadsheets.

Cons

No payroll at all, which caught me out when I took someone on.

Sorted my quarterly updates

Categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well. HMRC submission went through first time with no error messages.

Pros

Categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well.

Cons

There is no balance sheet, so my accountant still does a year end job.

Fine for a simple trade

HMRC submission went through first time with no error messages. Only real gripe is that importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly.
