Good starting point, you will move on

The free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT, and HMRC submission went through first time with no error messages. No complaints so far.

Pros

The free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT.

Cons

You outgrow it the moment you register for VAT.

Fine for a simple trade

Setup took an evening and I have never used accounting software before, and the free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT. No complaints so far.

Pros

Setup took an evening and I have never used accounting software before.

Cons

No payroll at all, which caught me out when I took someone on.

Fine for a simple trade

Reporting is thin if you want anything beyond income and expenses. There is no balance sheet, so my accountant still does a year end job. Looking at alternatives.

Pros

Quarterly updates take about ten minutes once the bank feed is set up.

Cons

Reporting is thin if you want anything beyond income and expenses.

Does the MTD job without the ceremony

The free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT, and categorising expenses on the phone while sat in the van works well. Importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly, but we live with it.

Pros

The free tier covered everything I needed until I registered for VAT.

Importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly.

Works for a one person business

Setup took an evening and I have never used accounting software before. Only real gripe is that importing two years of history from a spreadsheet was fiddly.
